Negligence: Van driver jailed for causing death of 2 Malaysians

SINGAPORE: A 25-year-old van driver who rammed into eight stationary motorcyclists along Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) in March last year, killing two Malaysians, was today sentenced to three months imprisonment and banned from driving for five years. According to Channel NewsAsia, Koh Boon Ping pleaded guilty to causing death by negligence, of two motorcyclists, Loke Whay Nam, 50, and Lim Chun Hong, 34, on March 11. Another two charges for seriously injuring six other Malaysian motorcyclists were taken into account at sentencing, said the portal. “(Koh) then panicked and accidentally stepped on the accelerator … the van surged forward and collided into the eight motorcyclists. The van only stopped when a motorcycle became stuck underneath it,” deputy public prosecutor Lee Zu Zhao was quoted as saying.
