A new law is needed to end female genital mutilation (FGM), according to a report. Masooma Ranalvi, convenor of Speak out on FGM said the document will be submitted to the ministry of women and child development. This is a blue print of what the law (against FGM) in India should look like,” said Ranalvi. The term FGM refers to partial or total removal of external female genitalia for non-medical reason. The practice is banned in nearly 20 countries, but India does not have a law specifically banning it.
