Nearly $90k of jewellery stolen in Queenstown

Almost $90,000 in jewellery has been stolen from the Frankton-Kelvin Heights area. Sergeant Keith Newell, of Queenstown, said about $80,000 of jewellery was taken from a Kelvin Heights property last week and over the weekend police were notified of another incident, where about $7000 of jewellery was taken from a Douglas Street property. It was one of two similar incidents over the weekend — about 8am yesterday a 25-year-old woman hit lamp posts and a concrete power pole. Sgt Newell said the woman, who sustained a cut to her forehead and a broken hand, told police she ‘‘went to sleep’’ behind the wheel. The crash happened on State Highway 6 at the turn-off to Hardware Lane — it was estimated she was driving about 70kmh in the 80kmh zone.
