One of these is the general undesirability of tariffs upon intermediate goods--those being the things that we make other things out of. The letter is here:The diplomatic costs might be worth it if the tariffs generated economic benefits. Additional steel tariffs would actually damage the U.S.economy. Tariffs would raise costs for manufacturers, reduce employment inmanufacturing, and increase prices for consumers. No Mr President, we really don't want steel import tariffs.
