Red foxes are literally almost everywhere. According to the Invasive Species Compendium (cabi.org/isc/), red foxes are native to Europe, Asia, North Africa and boreal (northern) regions of North America. True to their reputation, red foxes are wiley: they are smart, learn from their mistakes and are therefore often difficult to catch a glimpse of. Researchers think that foxes are using the Earths magnetic field to triangulate on the location of their hidden prey, that once they hear the prey they search for the spot where the angle of the sound from the prey matches the slope of the Earths magnetic field (the slope refers to the fact that the magnetic field tilts downward in the northern hemisphere). However it works, when red foxes pounce to the northeast, they are successful 73% of the time.
