However, the Forest Department has, since the initiation of the TKHH programme, thought better of it, and disposed of the crop before planting the entire area with native tree varieties. Under the TKHH programme, it is aimed to plant 230 crore seedlings in four years, 120 crore in non-forest and 10 crore in GHMC and HMDA areas. The remaining 100 crore seedlings are the responsibility of the Forest department. Under the third phase too, the target is 40 crore seedlings, 40 lakh in each assembly constituency, and 40,000 in each village. 2,925 nurseriesClose to 42 crore seedlings have been raised in 2,925 nurseries across the State, officials informed.
