The Nationals have discussed Chris Sale but will not sell the farm to get him. They are discussing a deal for Andrew McCutchen with the Pirates, but do not want to concede Victor Robles in that deal either, that person confirmed. As Rizzo indicated at the general managers’ meetings in early November, the Nationals believe Espinosa still has value, whether to them or as a trade chip. They believe they can make deals for Sale, McCutchen, or both, without offloading every prized prospect in their system. Perhaps they can build a deal for McCutchen, Sale, or both without him.
