The nationwide emergency helpline 999 is set to be inaugurated by prime minister’s Information and Communication Technology Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy next week. Any citizen of the country will be entitled to dialling the number, which will work as a one-stop emergency service centre. Primarily, the emergency number will ease contact with police, fire services and hospitals, the AIG said. Afterwards, a team headed by an additional deputy inspector general of police began the necessary processes to officially launch the service, which were recently completed.
