Charity’s new boss says she intends to reach out to those who have least access to ‘beauty’The National Trust will aim to reach out more to people living in cities as part of a “radical” approach under the charity’s new director general. They were accused of succumbing to pressure from the hunting lobby after a motion to ban the practice of trail hunting on the organisation’s land was narrowly defeated at its annual conference. Nevertheless, she insisted she was “incredibly ambitious” about wanting more people to feel the benefit of what the National Trust does. One example she gave was the charity’s partnership with Newcastle city council to develop the city’s parks and allotments. “Trail hunting is a really wicked problem and we are bang in the middle of the argument,” she added.
