National Surf Life Saving Championships return to New BrightonSTACY SQUIRES/FAIRFAX NZ The TSB Bank National Surf Life Saving Championships returned to Christchurch's New Brighton beach this year. New Brighton beach was awash with activity over the weekend as the TSB Bank National Surf Life Saving Championships returned to Christchurch. More than 1200 of the country's top lifesavers gathered at the New Brighton Life Saving Club for 2017 annual spectacular, the pinnacle of the sport's season. Surf Life Saving sport manager Mike Lord said this year's nationals had more Masters and South Island teams than ever before. Christchurch's Waimairi Surf Life Saving Club was the top placed South Island team with a 15th place finish.
