The ceremony was held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in capital Dhaka on Sunday. Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, has been awarded posthumously for the year 2011 for his role as a sportsman and an organiser. The founder of the country's leading sports club Abahani Limited was assassinated along with his parents, wife and other family members on Aug 15, 1975. Kamal's friend Bangladesh Olympic Association Secretary General and Dhaka Club President Syed Shahed Reza received the award on his behalf from Hasina. The government started bestowing the National Sports Award in 1976.
