Populism and ConspiracismBefore I begin, it is worth taking a moment to properly define what we mean when we talk about conspiracy theories. The question then arises, how to separate these historic and plausible conspiracy plots from the more elaborate and fanciful conspiracy theories? Indeed, I am not alone is drawing a connection between populism and conspiracy theories. With that said, I argue that the core of Postone’s theory accords with much later social psychological research into the study of conspiracy theories. The next question to therefore ask is, how does Postone’s theory fit into our study of the reactionary international?
