National Party backbench MP Nuk Korako has announced his retirement, opting to depart within the month. "Nuk was instrumental as chair of the National Party Māori Caucus in developing Māori capability within the National Party. He established the regional Kahurangi National Māori Groups and will continue this work," said Bridges. He was beaten by nearly 8000 votes in Port Hills in 2017 by long-time incumbent Labour MP Ruth Dyson, despite National winning the party vote. Korako said on Monday it had been "a privilege and a pleasure" to work for the Port Hills community.
