The Cabinet has approved a proposal by the President as the Minister of Defense for the accreditation of the National Defense Academy under Gen. Sir John Kothalawala Defense University in order to award post graduate degrees to scholars, the government said. The Cabinet approval had been given to draft the ‘Sri Lanka National Defense Academy Act’ for the incorporation of ‘National Defense Academy’ by a Parliamentary Act, following which the activities of the institution are scheduled to be inaugurated in May 2021. The Act was tabled in order to provide legal provisions to award the eligibility for students who complete the full-time courses successfully. Further, a Cabinet approval has also been given to sign a proposed Memorandum of Understanding between Gen. Sir John Kothalawala Defense University and the University of Comsats in Pakistan to exchange knowledge and conduct partnership researches on the sectors mutually essential to both countries.
