It’s been a long wait but finally the National Ballet of Canada is returning to live performance. “I know everyone is really excited.”This will not be the National Ballet’s first visit to the open-air theatre. This week, because of limited space, the National Ballet Orchestra has pre-recorded its contributions although there will still be some live music for solo instruments and small ensembles. Contrast that with the relative luxury afforded another National Ballet debutante, Spanish-born choreographer, Vanesa G. R. Montoya. It was initially commissioned as part of the company’s virtual season but was sidelined when yet another lockdown shuttered the National Ballet’s studios.
