Publish : 20 Feb 2026, 19:26The Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka has been decorated ahead of this year’s Shaheed Day — Language Martyrs’ Day — internationally observed as International Mother Language Day. Street islands and key points in Dhaka will display alphabets representing all of Bangladesh’s ethnic communities, including Bangla. Bangladesh Shishu Academy will host drawing competitions, poetry recitations, and cultural events for children, including special children’s editions of publications. Pedestrians can move freely along Palashi Mor through Shaheed Minar to Doel Chattar, as well as at the High Court intersection, TSC intersection, and Shahidullah Hall intersection. Special prayers for language martyrs will be held after Asr at all campus mosques and places of worship.
