People from all walks of life paid floral tributes to the Language Martyrs at the Central Shaheed Minar today. Photo: BSSDHAKA, Feb 21, 2026 (BSS)- As the country embarked on hard earned democratic process the nation today paid homage to the martyrs of the language movement with new zeal and renewed nationalistic spirit. The day was observed as Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day with solemnity commemorating the martyrdom of Rafique, Shafique, Salam, Barkat, Jabbar and others on February 21, 1952 during the Language Movement. This marked the first formal participation in offering tributes to language martyrs by Jamaat at the central Shaheed Minar. Diplomats of different country paid tributes to the language martyrs later.
