The GAA must proceed with their inter-county Championships, according to former President Nickey Brennan. Speaking to The Herald after yesterday's Government announcement that sport was being taken behind-closed-doors until September 13, Brennan said it was imperative that the GAA's premier competitions go ahead in order to protect "the mental health of the nation". "I think there needs to be a championship for the mental health of the people of the country who just want to see matches," Brennan stressed. "Of course it's going to be surreal playing those games behind closed doors. "They must compensate the GAA nationally and they must compensate the county boards, because the mental health of the nation is at stake."
