Nation Media Group (NMG) has been ordered to pay oil marketer Gulf Energy Ksh12 million. In a ruling by a three-judge bench, the media house was accused of publishing a defamatory article against the company. According to the court documents, the article published in the Daily Nation newspaper and the website in October 2012 damaged the image of the company. Following the publishing and distribution of the article, the oil company complained that it suffered a monumental loss of business. Initially, the oil company sought Ksh23 million but the Court of Appeal judges reduced the compensation to Ksh12 million.
