The tournament is all set to roll on the pitch Friday after a gap of 14 years with the participation of 78 teams. Along with 63 district football teams excluding only Kishoreganj, three service teams, six public universities, five education boards and Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan will be taking part in the meet. The participating district teams have been divided into eight zones under the names of rivers – Padma, Meghna, Jamuna, Shitalakshya, Brahmaputra, Buriganga, Chitra and Surma. The tournament, formerly known as Sher-e-Bangla National Football Championship, was last held in 2006, and has been named after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as part of the birth centenary celebrations of the Father of the Nation.
