The people of the Maldives have a legitimate request to world governments, especially to India and the US.”The Sri Lankan Government has remained silent over the developments in the Maldives. China, the US and UK have expressed concern and urged their nationals to be vigilant when visiting the country. Yameen has declared a 15-day state of emergency and suspended parliament and ordered the arrest of former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, estranged half-brother of Yameen, and the chief justice of the Supreme Court.
