New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday called for creating four big Indian accounting firms that are counted among the world’s “big eight” even as he cautioned chartered accountants (CAs) against misuse of their all-powerful signature. He said the signature of a chartered accountant is more powerful than even that of a prime minister and the government also believes the accounts signed by them. “People talk of the big four accounting firms. By 2022, let us have a big eight, where 4 firms are Indian,” Modi said while addressing the CAs on the foundation day of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in India (ICAI). He said a new India is waiting and the CAs have a big responsibility as they form a key pillar of the Indian economy.
