NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday batted for an outcome-based approach for rural development and said that "the country has sufficient resources to deliver benefits to the last man in the queue and the desired results can be achieved through good governance. ""It (rural development) should be outcome based not output based...There should be no dilution or diversion from the spirit it was conceived. "If this is done, we can achieve by 2022 what has been a dream for the last 70 years," he said.Speaking about democracy, Modi said, "Democracy is successful when there is 'jan bhagidari' (public participation) in implementing development schemes. "He further said if rural products such as earthen lamps were used in cities like a "fashion statement", it would help the village poor prosper. "He also said rural India today seeks to get the facilities available in cities such as power supply, latest technology and internet connection.
