SEPANG: With 101 Malaysians caught in 2019 for being drug mules – out of which 82 were arrested overseas – the police decided to station a new police unit at airports to target such offenders. While 101 offenders might seem like a small number, those were just the offenders successfully caught, said Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd. While narcotic department officers had already been stationed at the airports in the past, Comm Mohd Khalil said that the duties of the new unit would be more focused. There will be this new unit at seven main airports, including the Penang International Airport and Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang. In an unrelated issue, Comm Mohd Khalil said the police had seized a further RM5.6mil as part of their investigations into a drug syndicate busted in Penang last year.
