Police said that the ambush took place at 10am on the Sugnai Padi-Joh I Rong road in Ban Bang Prao village in Tambon Sungai Padi of Sugnai Padi district. Pol-Captain Preecha Polsa, deputy inspector of Sungai Padi station, was travelling in the car with two policemen. When they reached the spot, insurgents detonated the bomb with a walkie-talkie. Because of the way that the bomb was placed on top of an anthill, the blast was directed upwards. Police said the bomb appeared to be made of 20 kilogrammes of explosives and was assembled in a gas cylinder.
