Their penance was of a very high order and nothing could unsettle them. It is held that once Indra, sensing their penance to be a threat to his position, sent the celestial damsels to disrupt it. Nara did not respond and Narayana, though not mentally disturbed by this, got into a tricky situation when He created Urvasi to match their beauty. Narayana explained that since in this birth He was committed to yoga and penance, He could not yield to their wishes. But He promised that their wishes would be fulfilled at a later date when, at the end of Dwapara Yuga, He would incarnate as Krishna.
