A forestry company affected by a large fire near Napier estimates half-a-million dollars worth of tree crop was lost in the blaze. A spokesperson from Pan Pac said the fire has now been contained on their land and a neighbouring Forest Management New Zealand forest. Strong westerly winds during the past few days made the blaze difficult to battle, with 55 ground and forestry crews working to secure the perimeter of the fire. Fire and Emergency New Zealand said the fire was unlikely to grow, as weather conditions were favourable on Wednesday. "There will still be smoke coming from the fire as skid sites in the forest burn over the next few days.
