Naogaon farmers eye bumper mustard yield


Mustard cultivation in Naogaon Dhaka TribuneAccording to DAE sources, a total of 29,265 hectares of land in 11 upazilas of the district have been brought under mustard cultivation this year, compared to their preset target of 25,000 hectaresFarmers and agricultural officials in Naogaon are expecting a bumper production of mustard during the current season due to favourable weather. “A bumper yield of mustard is expected because of the favourable weather this season, as well as the intensive attention that is being paid.” said Naogaon Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Deputy Director Manajit Kumar Mallik. “The production of mustard is exceeding its annual target, motivating farmers towards further production of the crop, as they also receive favourable prices in the market,” Manajit added. During this correspondent's recent visit to the different upazilas of the district, farmers were found to be busy attending to the mustard cultivation. He cited 6,200 hectares of land being used for mustard cultivation in Manda, an increase from 5,500 hectares last year.
