Sammy Onyango was charged with the murder of Lazaro Tirop on June 25, an incident that led to protests by hundreds of villagers. The charge was preferred against Mr Onyango by Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions in Kapsabet, Judith Betty Ayuma, after perusing his file on July 10. It was alleged that the accused shot Mr Tirop for flouting Covid-19 regulations. The father of four was shot and killed as he confronted Mr Onyango and his colleagues.
