Sports CS Ababu Namwamba has confirmed that the national government will take over the renovation works currently going on at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega. Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba announced this change, attributing the shift to the financial difficulties faced by the county administration. Namwamba explained, "The county government has requested the national government to take over the project due to the financial challenges they are facing." Namwamba was accompanied by Higher Education Principal Secretary Beatrice Inyangala during the announcement, underscoring the government's unified approach to completing the stadium renovations. This takeover is seen as a critical step in ensuring that Bukhungu Stadium meets the standards required for hosting international events, particularly the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
