Namibia: Solar energy project to trade all power on the SAPP


A 20MWp solar PV plant is set to be constructed in Namibia after the project reached financial close. The plant is touted to become the first fully merchant Independent Power Producer (IPP) trading all of its renewable energy on the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP). Model could speed up building of renewable energy plantsFunding for the project is being provided by the UK-headquartered Solarcentury Africa with the support of its parent company, international energy trading group BB Energy. Solarcentury Africa and their local partners, Sino Energy recently announced that they have reached financial close on the plant. The power generated will be sold by the company’s trading arm Solarcentury Trading, a member of the SAPP.
