He sought refuge in a shop and was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital. A photograph taken by a passerby shows the naked man, his left lower arm hidden by his body and an object in his right hand which is also shown in the shadow cast on the ground. A terraced house which had been sealed off by police had its ground floor window almost completely smashed out. Witnesses reported smashed glass from the ground floor window of the house and medical staff at the scene. One witness said: "Apparently the man jumped out of the window without any clothes on and ran across the road to a shop.
