“It is seen that the police works only if some strings are pulled or calls are made or some petition is filed. The court directed the police to record the statements of all persons who witnessed a brawl between Najeeb and some ABVP members at the JNU hostel on Oct. 14, 2016. Livid over the pace of the probe, the court said the police “do not act with promptitude till some strings are pulled”. Mr. Mehra submitted that the delay has been caused due to non-cooperation of nine students who are suspects in the case. Mr. Mehra, however, submitted that the police were not opposed to transferring the probe to CBI or a court-appointed team.
