Following the northeast Indian state of Tripura, which voted on February 18, state assembly polls were held in another two mountainous states – Nagaland and Meghalaya – on Tuesday. In Nagaland, a total 1,191,513 voters exercised their franchise, while 1.84 million people voted in Meghalaya. 75% of the polling was completed by 4pm local time in Nagaland, and 67% in Meghalaya. In Nagaland, polling was conducted at 59 constituencies through 2,156 polling stations, with the candidate in one constituency elected unopposed. Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang and Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma exercised their franchise for their respective states and constituencies.
