Daniel Murtagh has remained in isolation at Cloverhill Prison since his conviction three days ago for the murder of his former partner Nadine Lott. The only people who deserve sympathy are Nadine Lott and her family, and her young daughter in particular, who has essentially been left an orphan. Messages between the pair in the weeks before her murder show Ms Lott repeatedly telling him the relationship was over and would never be rekindled. According to Women’s Aid, Ms Lott is one of 240 women to have died violently in Ireland since 1996. Long-serving gardaí said Ms Lott’s murder brought to the public consciousness an extremity of violence difficult to comprehend.
