Nacada warns against counterfeit alcohol, illicit brew as deaths rise

The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse has cautioned Kenyans against consumption of illicit brew and any alcohol not certified by Kebs. "Studies conducted by Nacada and other independent institutions point to the presence and rise of counterfeit alcohol packaged in brand names of popular alcoholic drinks as well as illicit brews," Nacada said in a statement. Nacada called on Kenyans to report any sale of illicit alcohol to the police or local administration. The statement comes a few days after one person was reported dead and nine others admitted after they consumed illicit brew in Nyahururu. Another case was reported in Tharaka Nithi on Monday where three people were reported dead while four other were admitted after they consumed alcohol made from honey.
