READER REPORT: NZ's white gays must support our people of colour KIRAN FOSTERREUTERS Homophobic violence is motivated by silencing our difference and nobody is more visibly different than trans people of colour, writes Kiran Foster. What has changed is that many white gay people are now so used to being considered respectable they’re surprised when things like this happen. It is telling that even the most anti-racist white queer communities are focusing exclusively on the race and religion of the shooter, rather than of the victims. Finally, and most importantly, I challenge white members of the 'LGBT community' to centre and uplift people of colour. Homophobic violence is motivated by silencing our difference and nobody is more visibly different than trans people of colour.
