NZ's longest (if often overlooked) wharfSupplied Tiwai wharf, the country's longest by far. Longest wharfSouthland's longest wharf, and the longest in New Zealand, is the Tiwai Wharf, first used in 1971. The wharf is 1500m long and more than twice as long as the wharf frequently claimed to be the longest at Tolaga Bay. The last cargo ship to use the wharf loaded a cargo of maize in 1967 and by 1998 the deteriorated wharf was closed and earmarked for demolition. The Tiwai wharf has no public access although formerly vehicles could drive along it.
