For the first time, New Zealanders have a global picture of their impact on the climate – including the products we import. Statistics NZ is working on improving these overseas estimates and, in the meantime, it says, its numbers are provisional. If everyone opted for low-carbon alternatives, it would make a difference, said Statistics NZ environmental-economic accounts manager Stephen Oakley. The report also looks at the climate impact of New Zealand’s trading relationship with the world. The release is the latest in a series trying to give more meaningful information about our climate impact.
