New Zealand Symphony Orchestra conducted by Thomas Sondergard with Denis Kozhukhin (piano).Music by Beethoven, Schumann and Sibelius. This concert was, in prospect, very exciting but, for some reason it only attracted an average-sized audience. That was a pity for it was, in the event, immensely satisfying on all levels, featuring great piano playing, great orchestral playing and great conducting. SUPPLIED Conductor Thomas Sondergard lead an evening of great piano playing and great orchestral playing. Thomas Sondergard offered more drama than I believe Sibelius called for, but brought it off brilliantly with wonderful orchestral playing, highlighted by superbly sensitive tympani playing - very important in this symphony - by Thomas Guldborg.
