NZR to freeze 50% of remaining player payments

New Zealand Rugby will freeze approximately 50% of its remaining player spend this year. Those payments will total about $25 million as it looks to negotiate the financial pain caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. It also includes contributions to player savings schemes, although retains KiwiSaver, while also freezing promotional payments and the majority of player performance incentives. “As a result, we have agreed to immediately freeze approximately $25 million, or 50%, of the remaining forecasted player spend in 2020. Nichol said they were still working with NZR and Provincial Unions on what would happen with Provincial Union contracts.
