World Sailing set to cull New Zealand's medal-winning Olympic classesGETTY IMAGES Peter Burling and Blair Tuke's 49er class could become a mixed gender Olympic event under a proposal being considered by World Sailing. Three of New Zealand's recent Olympic medal sources are under threat for the Paris edition of the Games in 2024. It is part of the stated goals of both the International Olympic Committee and World Sailing to equalise the number of men and women contesting the Games' sailing programme which will be restricted to 10 medal events. Aleh and Powrie are now taking a break from Olympic class yachting. The moves are part of proposals being put together for voting by World Sailing early next year, according to a report at the reliable Sailing Illustrated website.
