NZ Post thief rifled through parcels for valuables


A man who broke into a Hamilton NZ Post depot, stealing hundreds of items and ferreting through them for valuables,has been jailed. Christel Yardley/Stuff Whitu Emery was sentenced to one year and eight months jail in Hamilton District Court on Monday. After realising the items were missing, NZ Post changed the locks on the roller door on December 7, the court heard. Judge Spear said Emery had attacked the sanctity of postal service, causing disruption to many people. He then sentenced Emery to one year and eight months jail for the totality offending including the breach of community work, breach of bail and using a document charge.
