Businesses can see their own businesses doing well, but can’t believe everyone will be doing well under a Labour Government. That gap opened even wider from 2017 to early 2020 than it did under Helen Clark and Michael Cullen from 1999 to 2008. It was “yo-yo” data to match a ‘yo-yo’ economy after ‘yo-yo’ lockdowns. New Zealand Inc is more together than it has been since the last National Government, but it remains ‘yeah, nah’ environment of two steps forward and one step back. NZ Inc still has plenty of work to do in a post-Covid world.
