The National Women's Soccer League and A&E Networks announced a premature end to the television partnership between the two entities, one year ahead of the conclusion of a three-year deal. This will be spun in many corners as some kind of referendum on the marketability of women's soccer, and that fails to take into account the many problems with the fit between A&E and NWSL. With several executives who'd helped carry the project to fruition, notably Evan Silverman, departing A&E, the will to do so had disappeared as well. That means there is no over-the-air television deal for the league, a massive step backward in terms of how fans can access the product. Sports will broadcast some games, while all are accessible via the NWSL app and at NWSLSoccer.com.
