Ruto puts Kindiki on notice over backlog of passportsThe second National Executive Retreat of the Kenya Kwanza government ended yesterday with underperforming cabinet secretaries and their principal secretaries put on notice. Sources at the meeting indicated that Interior Cabinet Secretary Professor Kithure Kindiki came under fire over the passport backlog at the Immigration Department, which has denied thousands of Kenyans job opportunities abroad. The issue is said to have stemmed from Monday’s meeting where the UDA caucus complained about not being informed of 2,500 nursing jobs in Saudi Arabia for which only 500 applications had been received. The arduous process that thousands of Kenyans have been subjected to in long passport queues is said to be limiting the number of aspiring Kenyans who want to practice their skills in foreign job markets. The Interior boss has been put on probation for three months and President William Ruto has asked Kindiki to resolve the crisis as soon as possible.
