Floods: DP Gachagua blames deaths on ‘ignorance’The death toll from the floods has risen to 120. Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused Kenyans of negligence and urged them to exercise caution. The government says Tana River, Wajir, Garissa and Mandera counties are worst hit, while Isiolo, Kwale, Homa Bay, Makueni, Tharaka Nithi, Lamu, Taita Taveta, Meru and Kisumu counties are on high alert. 89,000 households have been displaced and are being housed in 112 camps in the affected counties. An Emergency and Disaster Response Command Centre has been established at Nyayo House to provide early warning, mobilise response capacity and liaise with county governments.
