Family protests exhumation fees after kin believed to be buried reappearsThe family of a man who resurfaced after being declared dead is protesting the police’s demand that they pay Sh70,000 for the exhumation and postmortem of an unidentified body mistakenly buried on their land. According to the man’s father, Meme Nchebere, police are insisting on the payment for exhumation despite the mix-up. The body, initially believed to be that of Abdala Mwenda, was found decomposing in a house at Mutuati Market, where Mwenda had once lived. The family went ahead with the burial, only for Mwenda to reappear a week later and discover his own grave. Mutuati Sub-county DCC Sylvester Mwangulu said the authorities are waiting for a court order to proceed with the exhumation of the body.
