DR Congo rapper pardoned after jail for insulting presidentA Congolese rapper arrested in 2021 for insulting the country’s leader Felix Tshisekedi has been freed from prison after receiving a presidential pardon, the musician told AFP on Tuesday. “Finally, I’ve been released,” Idengo, 27, told AFP by telephone after he left prison in the eastern city of Goma. Tshisekedi had announced on December 11 that he was planning to release the rapper while speaking at an election rally in the musician’s hometown of Beni, in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. “I will continue to express through my songs everything I have to say,” Idengo said. The DRC, an impoverished but mineral-rich central African nation, is holding presidential and parliamentary elections on Wednesday.
