Activist charged after allegedly threatening to burn down police stationA human rights activist who allegedly insulted police officers at a Nairobi police station and threatened to burn the station to demand the release of a suspect arrested for stealing a motorcycle has been charged with causing a disturbance. Evans Musati Manyanya is accused of causing a disturbance at Mukuru kwa Reuben police station in Makadara sub-county. The suspect is alleged to have banged on the doors of the police station while insulting officers on duty and saying “kama hamtamuachilia tutachoma station (If you don’t release him, we will burn this station)”. He is accused of committing the offence on 14 October after storming the station with more than 20 protesters he had allegedly mobilised in the area. Four police officers on duty at the time are listed as witnesses in the case.
